Today the CMS Committee held a one-off evidence session following reports in December of an ongoing stalemate between the Premier League and the rest of the football pyramid on agreement of a financial settlement. It also follows the Government’s announcement in the Kings Speech that it plans to create a new independent football regulator, which will have the power to act on issues on financial regulation compliance. We heard from Richard Masters (Chief Executive, Premier League) and Rick Parry (Chair, English Football League).
We had the opportunity to seek views on the establishment of the new Independent Regulator for men’s football as well as the powers and responsibilities it will have regarding football finances, and appointing owners and directors.
