Damian Green has visited Newtown Works in Ashford which is set to be redeveloped into mixed-use site including an international film studio, apartments, hotel and a new Kent Film School.
The 12.6 acre former railway works and brownfield site will be redeveloped into one million square foot of restored listed buildings and brand new space. The ambitious £250 million project has also secured, thanks to the help of Damian, £14.5 million of central government funding from the Levelling Up fund.
Damian has said this is “a major development for Ashford, transformational for the town both in terms of what we have to offer in terms of international film and TV production but also in terms of job opportunities for many young people.”
The project highlights the successful partnership working between Ashford Borough Council, private developers and central government. Kent-based company Quinn Estates is leading the development and local architects Holloway has led the design of Newtown Works.
