Today the CMS Committee held its first evidence session of the Committee’s scrutiny of the Draft Media Bill. In the session we heard from Emily Davidson (Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Channel 4), Magnus Brooke (Group Director of Strategy, Policy and Regulation, ITV), and Mitchell Simmons (Vice President Public Policy and Government Affairs (Europe, Middle East, Africa), Paramount).
The evidence session explored the perspectives of the commercial PSBs, with a particular focus on the changes to the public service broadcasting remit, listed events and how the prominence regime will work. It also enabled us to explore in detail the new sustainability duty on Channel 4 and implications of ending its publisher-broadcaster model.
