Today at the CMS Committee we held a joint ministerial session an opportunity to question Ministers from across Government on the findings of the Committee’s ‘Promoting Britain Abroad’ inquiry and on the latest evidence it heard from stakeholders in November 2023. We focussed on how the Government is supporting the recovery of inbound and domestic tourism, as well as policy considerations that fall under the Home Office and Treasury’s remits, including tourist and worker visas and the removal of tax-free shopping for international visitors.
In today’s session we heard from Julia Lopez MP (Minister of State for Media, Tourism and Creative Industries, DCMS), Nigel Huddleston MP (Financial Secretary to the Treasury, HM Treasury) and Tom Pursglove MP (Minister of State for Legal Migration and the Border, Home Office).
