Today the CMS Committee held its fifth and final evidence session on its inquiry into Women’s Sport. We heard from two panels today. In the first panel, we heard from Stephanie Hilborne (Chief Executive, Women in Sport) and Jeanette Bain-Burnett (Head of Policy and Integrity, Sport England). In the second panel we heard from Stuart Andrew MP (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Sport, Tourism and Civil Society, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport), Polly Payne (Director General for Culture, Sport and Civil Society, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport), and Adam Conant (Deputy Director, Head of Sport, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport).
The first panel allowed us to examine the work of Sport England, an arms-length body of Government responsible for growing and developing grassroots sport and getting more people active across England. The second panel allowed us to hear from the Sports Minister and two CMS officials on the Government’s strategy on women’s sport. Questions focused on the Government’s new Sports strategy ‘Get Active’ which aims to get 1.25 million more women more active by 2030.
